Who designs wins . . .

Dwell announce their second annual design competition Design for dwell 2009. The competition was launched in July 2007 and invites design enthusiasts of all ages to create a new and unique contemporary interior home product that would sit well within the dwell brand.


Last years highly successful contest had over 250 entries and was won by Kimberly Whitelaw from Edinburgh. Her winning design the ‘comfortable coffee table’ was chosen for its originality, strong functionality as well as its good looks. As part of the winner’s package the Comfortable coffee table has been put into production and will feature in the dwell Spring 09 collection.


The 2008 design for dwell contest was judged a panel of design and interior experts and included John Amabile host of 60 minute makeover and leading style journalist Barbara Chandler who said, ‘Design is a fascinating process, and the judging and discussion process for this competition has proved to be equally as fascinating’. Aamir Ahmad, founder and MD of dwell who was also on the judging panel said ‘I was amazed at the range of designs that had been entered, choosing an outright winner was tough. I can’t wait to see Kimberly’s winning design in our collection’.


The 2009 winner will receive a £1,000 and a trip for two to the Milan Furniture Fair with the winning entry again going into production. Designs can be presented in any format i.e. drawing or model. Models submitted but should not exceed sizes of 30cm.


The closing date for Design for dwell 2009 is 31st March, 2009.
